
Getting Your Bathroom Heat Just Right
Nobody likes stepping out of a hot shower into a freezing bathroom. But if you just throw the biggest heater you can find into a small room, you’re asking for trouble. It’s all about matching the power to the space so you aren’t wasting electricity or turning your bathroom into a sauna. We stick with shortwave infrared. Why? Because it doesn’t bother trying to warm up all the air in the room. Instead, it beams heat directly onto you. It’s a much smarter way to stay warm.
Picking the Right Power
You’ve got to look at the size of your room before you buy. If you’re dealing with a tiny powder room (under 4m²), a single 400W to 600W lamp usually does the trick. But for those big master baths (8m² to 12m²), you’ll want a few lamps working together—somewhere around 1200W to 1800W total. Here’s the catch: if you put too much power in a tiny space, you might trigger the thermal cut-off or just burn the lamp out way too fast. On the flip side, if the lamp is too weak, it has to run constantly to keep you warm. That’s a great way to kill the filament.
The Tech Under the Hood
Most of our units use quartz glass and halogen gas. It sounds technical, but all it really means is that the lamp can get scorching hot without the glass getting cloudy or gross. We also use R7s or SK15 connectors. We did that on purpose so that if a tube ever pops, you can just drop in a new one without needing a degree in electrical engineering. And the best part? It’s instant. You don’t have to stand there waiting for a coil to glow red and slowly warm the air. You flip the switch, and you feel the heat on your skin immediately.
The Balancing Act
It’s tempting to go for the highest wattage possible, but keep an eye on your wiring. High-power lamps pull a lot of current. If you try to shove a 1000W lamp into a housing built for 600W, your socket is going to fry over time. It’s a simple trade-off. Match the wattage to your room size, keep the workload light, and your lamps will last a whole lot longer.
