The Husky HyPET preform heater lamp is built to put the heating behavior back where it should be, without guesswork.
What matters, technically
We spec the HyPET preform heater lamp as a short-wave infrared halogen emitter, matched to Husky’s heating-tunnel geometry and power budget. The quartz envelope gives you fast response, and the R7s base means it drops right into the same socket and contacts as the OEM lamp. Typical configurations are 230 V (single-phase), around 1.5 kW per lamp, sized for the standard lamp-holder spacing in HyPET heating sections. In practice, that output gets preform surface temperature up fast while keeping thermal control tight, so you can hold the same preform temperature profile shift after shift.
Why it plays in stretch blow molding
On a stretch blow molder, repeatability is what you’re actually buying. With lamps matched to Husky’s tunnel reflector layout, the spread in preform temperature narrows, which stabilizes stretch ratio and cut-off quality. That means fewer rejects, less scrap, and the line stays on target cycle without thermal-related slowdowns. Energy use stays sane, too: the directional IR output heats the preform directly instead of wasting time warming the air around it, so the heating stage can draw less power than older, less focused setups.
The details that bite you if you skip them
Installation is straightforward, but the heating tunnel needs to be clean. Dust on the reflectors and carbon buildup on the lamp surface will skew output and make the lamp run hotter than it should. Double-check voltage and connector type against the machine label—mismatched voltage shortens lamp life and changes heating performance. And IR lamps hate rough handling: don’t touch the quartz with bare skin. The residue left behind becomes a hot spot that can take the lamp out early.
