There’s nothing more frustrating than a full production line grinding to a halt because a few preform heating lamps decided to quit. It happens all the time. Usually, it’s just a case of thermal shock or some mechanical stress at the connection points that finally pushes the lamp over the edge. We’ve been there. That’s why we redesigned our SIPA-compatible replacements to actually handle the abuse. The secret is in the glass. Standard lamps often can’t keep up with the rapid heating and cooling cycles of a high-speed PET line. They just crack. We switched to a reinforced quartz composition that can take the expansion and contraction without snapping. The best part? They’re simple drop-in replacements. They fit the exact same footprint and electrical specs as your OEM lamps, so you don’t have to mess around with rewiring your racks. We also spent a lot of time on the seal between the filament and the end-cap. If that seal is weak, oxygen leaks in. Once that happens, your tungsten filament burns out in half the time it should. Our reinforced seals keep the air out and the lamps running. A quick word on heat. To soften PET preforms quickly, you need short-wave infrared energy. That means high wattage. But here’s the catch: pushing all that power through a small tube puts a lot of pressure on your lamp holders. If you’re running these at full blast,**keep your cooling fans clean.**Seriously. If the airflow is blocked, your sockets will char and burn, and it won’t matter how high-quality the lamp is. A few tips for when you swap them out. First, make sure the connectors are tight. A loose fit creates a hotspot, and a hotspot kills a lamp. While you’re in there, take a look at the contact pins. If they look pitted or worn, a brand-new lamp is still going to burn out early. And one last thing: use a clean, lint-free cloth on the quartz. Avoid touching the glass with your bare hands. The oils from your skin create “hot spots” on the tube, which leads to localized failure. Keep it clean, keep it cool, and you’ll spend a lot less time replacing bulbs.
