The “Why” Behind the Glass
It comes down to how glass handles stress. In a bathroom or a chicken coop, a stray splash causes a tiny area of the glass to cool down instantly while the rest stays scorching. That tension is what snaps a normal tube. We fix this by using reinforced borosilicate blends or specialized coatings. It makes the glass much tougher against those sudden temperature shocks. Getting the Heat Right
Most of these lamps run on a standard 220V-240V circuit. We go with high-wattage filaments because speed is everything. The faster the lamp heats up, the less time condensation has to build up on the glass. Plus, you get direct infrared radiation. It hits the animal or the object directly. It doesn’t waste time trying to heat the air, which is the only way to actually stay warm in a drafty barn or a steamy shower.
A Few Tips for Installation
Don’t skimp on the wiring. Use moisture-resistant seals, or your sockets will corrode before you know it. Also, check your housing. These tubes run hot—really hot. If your fixture is too small or doesn’t breathe, you’ll end up frying your wiring over time. One last thing: watch the mounting. These lamps have some weight to them. Use reinforced brackets so the tube doesn’t sag. If it sags, you get a hot spot on the filament, and your lamp will burn out way sooner than it should. And for goodness sake, keep the glass clean. Dust and grime create uneven heat, and that’s a shortcut to a broken tube.
